1. To exercise control over the assessment of annual requirement of stores for general purpose.
2. To exercise control over maintenance of stores of stock items and their distribution.
3. To arrange disposal of all surplus and scrap items.
4. To arrange procurement of all items available in the country specially indigenous products.
5. To make correspondence with concerning department in respect of materials specifications.
6. To arrange emergent purchase of all classes of materials as and when necessary.
7. To arrange procurement of Permanent Way materials including sleepers.
